It is impossible for the majority of the public to visit the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary because of its location and environment. The history of the Monitor lives on through recovered artifacts and historic documents on display at The Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, Virginia and other partner organizations. Student lesson plans and activities, teacher workshop, guest lectures, posters, brochures and other materials provide opportunities for the public to learn about the history, discovery, recovery, conservation and wreck site of the USS Monitor.
