The Austin Financial Center (AFC) was established in 1969 as a disbursing office for the Financial Management Service (FMS), a bureau of the Department of the Treasury. In 1984, the AFC became one of four FMS Regional Financial Center (RFC). Each RFC is responsible for the disbursement of public monies on behalf of Federal civilian agencies. The Regional system was developed to bring agency operations and services closer to its customers.
