About
the HAR:
As part
of its continuing commitment to improving service to its patrons,
the Turnpike Authority introduced a Highway Advisory Radio System
in July of 1992. Just tune into:
1610 AM (South of Int.
14)
590 AM (North of Int. 14, on the Western Spur
and
the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension)
530 AM on the Pearl Harbor Memorial
Turnpike Extension
530 AM on the Eastern Spur
on the radio dial.
The Highway Advisory Radio provides motorists with the latest, up-to-the-minute
reports on road and traffic conditions along the entire length of
the roadway.
The Highway Advisory
Radio (HAR), remains on the air 24 hours a day, seven days a week,
365 days a year providing the following information:
- Current traffic
conditions
- Travel restrictions
- Notices of
events throughout New Jersey
- Directions
to popular tourist attractions
- General safety
information
Ten fixed and
two portable transmitting sites comprise the Highway Advisory Radio
Network. Special HAR informational signs have been placed strategically
along the roadway, and are equipped with special flashing lights.
The lights are activated, to alert motorists that an urgent message
is being broadcast. Whenever possible, traffic conditions of surrounding
roadways and facilities are also broadcast.
