Georgia Coffey joined the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Diversity Management and Equal Employment Opportunity (ODI) in September of 2008. 

Ms. Coffey comes with over 25 years of EEO, diversity, human resources, and program management experience in the public and private sectors.  Prior to joining VA, she served as the Director of Equal Employment Opportunity & Diversity Management for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) where she was recognized for developing the agency’s first multi-year EEO & Diversity Strategic Action Plan and Annual Performance Report, creating the agency’s first Diversity Council, implementing FDA’s first Mandatory EEO Compliance Training for Managers and Supervisors, issuing the agency’s first Diversity Outreach and Retention Plan, publishing Guidance on Conducting a Fair and EEO Compliant Selection Process, and implementing several other groundbreaking EEO and diversity initiatives.  In 2005, she served as the Acting Assistant Commissioner for Management for the FDA.  Prior to FDA, she was the EEO Officer and Acting EEO & Diversity Manager for Montgomery County Government and was appointed to several County Commissions including the Commission on People with Disabilities, the Human Relations Commission Hate/Violence Committee, the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and the Rockville Human Rights Commission where she assisted in the creation of the city’s first community mediation program.  

Ms. Coffey has a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland in Psychology, a Master's Degree and Doctoral work in Educational Administration from American University, and a Certificate in EEO Studies from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations.  She is a native of Washington DC, wife and mother of two children, and has devoted most of her adult work life to promoting workforce diversity and protecting the civil rights of individuals in the workplace.
