Technology Transfer
An important aspect of the mission at Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children Medical Center is to seek knowledge through research for the promotion of health and prevention of disease. Technology transfer enables that knowledge to be used for public benefit, primarily by stimulating investment in specific technology by for-profit entities.
Although it is not a central activity of research, as the interest of public funding agencies in the application of research increases and as the level of private investment in commercial biotechnology and biomedical research grows, technology transfer is becoming more relevant to researchers. The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) is responsible for evaluating, protecting, and licensing for commercial development Tufts Medical Center Hospital-owned technology. It is also responsible for facilitating the conduct of research sponsored by for-profit entities or requiring materials from non-Tufts Medical Center Hospital sources.
