About CHQOER

Welcome to the web page of The Center for Health Quality, Outcomes and Economic Research (CHQOER), a Department of Veterans Affairs Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D) Center of Excellence located at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA, and affiliated with the Boston University School of Public Health. CHQOER research emphasizes the development of novel quantitative and qualitative approaches for assessing the quality and effectiveness of health care and applying this knowledge to solve select clinical, policy, and management problems faced by those responsible for improving the care of veterans. This research focus derives directly from the successful implementation of our 2004-2008 Strategic Plan. It recognizes not only the traditional strength of CHQOER in research methodologies but also acknowledges the ongoing transformation from an organization with a broad research agenda to one with a more focused concentration, and a mission not only to describe care, but to improve it. Spearheading this transformation is a new leadership team with Dan Berlowitz, MD, MPH as Center PI, Allen Gifford, MD, as Center Co-PI, and the Center’s Executive Advisory Committee composed of senior investigators with responsibility for providing leadership in priority areas.
