DAY USE PASSES & PERMITS
Day Use Passes
Day use passes may be purchased for the sites and/or areas on the Forests listed below.
Other fee sites have "day use passes" in the form of "on-site" purchases
from machines or fee tubes. Several forests have High Impact Recreation Areas (HIRA) that require passes.
Costs
Depending on the site/area, the cost for a pass is $2—$6 per
day. Annual pass range from $10 to $95.
Admittance
The pass admits the holder and any accompanying passengers in
a private vehicle.
For per-person sites, the visitor presents the actual validated
day pass, which admits holder, spouse, children and parents.
Validation
Visitors validate day use passes by printing clearly in ink, the month,
day and year of its use. Improper validation (incorrect or illegible
date) by holder may result in a warning notice or a violation
notice. Any modifications to the pass (such as changing the dates)
will void the pass.
The pass is good until midnight of its validation date unless the site has a posted closing time.
Display
Display pass in the vehicle on the dashboard of the driver's side.
For multiple days, a pass for each day must be visible in the vehicle.
Recreation Sites Requiring a Day Use Pass
The Southwestern Region National Forests listed below (in alphabetical
order) require day use fees. Check your destination forest
to see if a recreation pass is required at the site you plan
to visit.
