GISGEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS)
Geographic Information Systems or GIS are computer systems, software and data used to analyze and display spatial or locational data about surface features. One of the strengths of GIS is the capability to overlay or compare multiple feature layers. A user can then analyze the relationship between the layers. Data, reports and maps produced through GIS are used by managers and resource specialists to make decisions about land management activities on National Forests. The National Forests of the Southwestern Region maintain and utilize GIS data for various features on the ground. Some of these datasets are made available for download through this page.
