National Forests in California
Our publications fall into a few broad categories: administrative, general, and research publications. We also publish or use software. Our Directives are part of the Forest Service Manual and Forest Service Handbook.
This document contains the biophysical descriptions of the sections and subsections as depicted on the map "Ecological Units of California." The text, which supplements the map by describing the delineated section and subsection ecological units, is the result of collaboration by contributors from federal agencies in California, State agencies, universities and individuals.
The Forest Service Business Plan Initiative intends to improve the abilities of forests to communicate their financial condition and operational capabilities with principal stakeholders. These business plans provide forest managers with a powerful tool to communicate the current and future work of their organizations.
The Forest Service Directive System consists of the Forest Service Manual and Handbooks, which codify the agency's policy, practice, and procedure. The system serves as the primary basis for the internal management and control of all programs and the primary source of administrative direction to Forest Service employees.
Although the National Forests cover only 20% of the land in California, they produce almost half the state's runoff water. Because so much of California's water comes from the National Forests, the health of our forest ecosystems and watersheds is critical.
The NewsLog is an employee newsletter published by the Public Affairs & Communication Staff to highlight events, projects, policies and other news throughout Region 5.
In celebration of the Forest Service Centennial in Region 5, three books were published in July 2005.
The Pacific Southwest Region is the designated Water Quality Management Agency for National Forest System lands in California. The agency has developed and is implementing its Water Quality Management Plan, which is part of the State of California's Nonpoint Source Management Plan.
Treesearch is an online system for locating and delivering publications by Research and Development scientists in the US Forest Service.
