SNPLMA Round 5

How the Lake Tahoe Round 5 Proposed Project List Was Created
The Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee (LTFAC) Budget Subcommittee - Tahoe Working Group met on March 23, 2004 with the federal agencies and developed a list of priority projects called the "Primary Projects" and an alternate list of projects called the "Secondary Projects."

Lake Tahoe projects considered for funding had to meet the following minimum criteria:

  1. Be the responsibility of the federal government in the Environmental Improvement Program (EIP); or
  2. Have a willing and ready federal sponsor.

The LTFAC met on April 7, 2004 to review the subcommittee's recommendations and to hear public comments on the funding proposals. The committee formed a funding recommendation for Primary and Secondary projects. This recommendation and all public comments received during a 30-day public comment period were forwarded to the Tahoe Regional Executives.  Follow this link to read their letter: More.

The Tahoe Regional Executive Committee (TREX) reviewed the LTFAC recommendations and public comments.  The TREX then sent their recommendations to the SNPLMA Executive Committee.  Follow this link to read their letter: More.

Finally, the SNPLMA Executive Committee sent the project lists and recommendations forward to the Secretary of the Interior, Gale Norton, for final approval and funding in Round 5.

Proposed Funding
Projects originally submitted for funding totaled $51,658.400. After prioritization, the requested funding for projects on the Primary List totaled $47,778.400.  This amount was still more than the $37.5 million allowed. The final recommendation was reduced to $37,084,900 for all Primary projects. Projects on the Secondary list totaled $3.88 million and would be funded if funding became available.

Approved Funding and Projects
Secretary of the Interior, Gale Norton, approved the proposed funding and project lists on August 5, 2004.  The final approved funding amount is $37,084,900.  All the projects on the Primary list are approved and funded.  All the projects on the secondary list are approved but unfunded.  Follow this link  to view the Secretary of the Interior's approval document for the Round 5 Lake Tahoe Restoration Projects (PDF 42 KB).
