Vegetation, Urban Lot, Fire and Fuels Management Programs
The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has organized the Vegetation, Urban Lot,
Fire, and Fuels programs under a single staff area in order to
better coordinate hazardous fuels reduction and forest health thinning.
These programs are overseen by staff officer Dave Marlow. For information

Vegetation, Urban Lot, Fire and Fuels Program Accomplishments
Vegetation Management
- More than 22,000 acres
of fuels reduction work has been accomplished in the past nine years,
including 18,825 acres in California, and 3,565 acres in Nevada.
- In 2003 nearly 3,000
acres of treatments were accomplished
- In 2004, nearly 4,000
acres of treatments were accomplished.
- In 2005, nearly 2,500
acres of treatments were accomplished.
Urban Lot Management
1995 - September 2005
- 1280 acres of hazardous
fuels management has been completed. (2150 urban lots and 2.5 miles of urban
interface lands).
- 335 acres of re-entry
(follow up) forest health treatments (550 urban lots)
- Removed over 2100
identified hazard trees
- 240 acres of watershed
restoration treatments (400 urban lots)
- Conducted Invasive
Species monitoring and manual weed control on 68 acres (160 urban lots)
- Resolution on over 470
trespass cases
- Completed initial
Condition Assessment Inventory on 3360 urban lots and conduct Parcel Condition
Monitoring of approximately 1200 urban lots annually.
- Issued over 1100 forest
products permits (average 100 per year) to private property owners for fuels
reduction stewardship of adjoining National Forest System lands.
Fuels Management
- Since 1997 over 1000
acres of landscape underburns and over 3000 acres of prescribed pile burning
has been implemented on the LTBMU.

Integrated Information Management System (TIIMS) website. This interactive
map will allow you to zoom into your area and view past fuels project accomplishments, and current and planned future treatments.
Note: Current and planned future treatments are subject to change due to
funding and other factors. The Forest Service treatments on the
TIIMS
website are updated annually.
