Fire Near Fallen Leaf Lake Contained
South Lake Tahoe, CA.
--At approximately 2:00 pm, a report of smoke came in, in the vicinity of Fallen Leaf Lake near South Lake Tahoe, CA. A Forest
Service Fire Prevention Unit responded along with USFS and local government units.
At approximately 2:30 pm, the fire, called the "Leaf Fire'" was reported to be roughly 1 to 1-1/2 acres and holding, and
identified as being on lands managed by the California Tahoe Conservancy. The area was described as being near to,
but just outside the area of the 2007 Angora Fire. The area was also described as having had hand treatments as part
of a fuels reduction project, and this may have contributed to the lower rate of fire spread being reported.
By 3:00 pm, the Incident Commander began releasing units and declared the fire contained shortly thereafter.
The crews are aggressively mopping up the incident as of the time of this release.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
