Passes & Permits
The Forest Service offers many activities such as hiking, biking, skiing, camping, birding, using cabins, driving for pleasure, harvesting mushrooms, and gathering firewood. Many of the facilities and services associated with these opportunities are free. Some do require fees or permits to help maintain, manage and improve the amenities that you enjoy. MORE |

Reservations
Several major recreation facilities (campsites and groupsites) on the Kootenai can be reserved in advance using the National Recreation Reservation Service for an additional fee, either over the internet or by phone. MORE

Campground and Cabin Rental Fee Proposed Changes for 2008
Through the Recreation Facility Analysis process completed in July 2007, it was determined that additional revenue was necessary to be able to continue to operate and maintain developed sites. As a result, the Kootenai National Forest is planning to increase fees at some developed recreation sites for the 2008 season. MORE

The Kootenai National Forest is implementing the Recreation Facility Analysis (RFA) process for developed recreation sites. The result of RFA is a program of work with a list of prioritized actions to more effectively manage these recreation sites. MORE
