Illinois Healthy Women is a program that:

  • Allows you to decide if and when to have a baby
  • Helps you to plan a healthy birth, when you are ready
  • Provides family planning (birth control) and related reproductive healthcare, including birth control
  • Is free – there is no cost for the services
  • Is voluntary
  • Is confidential

Illinois Healthy Women covers family planning (birth control) and certain services provided at the family planning visit, such as the physical exam, pap tests, lab tests for family planning, testing and medicine for sexually transmitted infections found during a family planning visit, and sterilization. Illinois Healthy Women also covers mammograms, multivitamins and folic acid if they are ordered by the doctor during the family planning visit.

Family planning services are free, however, you may be required to pay a small co-payment if you choose to get brand name vitamins or other medicines ordered by a doctor.

Illinois Healthy Women is a voluntary program – you do not have to use it and can cancel at any time.

All family planning services that a woman gets are confidential.

There are two ways to enroll in Illinois Healthy Women.

  1. Automatic Enrollment - you will get a Pink Illinois Healthy Women card in the mail, when you lose regular medical benefits, if you qualify for the program.

  2. Application Process - women can get an application by calling 1-800-226-0768, or can print a mail-in application.

If you qualify, you will get a Pink Illinois Healthy Women card in the mail.
