Roger Williams names Forest Supervisor of the Malheur National Forest

PORTLAND, January 30, 2003 - Roger Williams has been named as the new Forest Supervisor of the Malheur National Forest, announced Linda Goodman, Regional Forester for the Pacific Northwest Region.

“Roger brings to the Forest a wealth of knowledge and experience,” commented Goodman. “He will be an asset to both the Forest and to the community of John Day.”Although the assignment will officially become effective February 10, 2003, Williams has been filling the Supervisor post for the last six months following Bonnie Wood’s move to Director of the Interagency National Fire Plan.

Williams came to the Malheur National Forest in December 2000 as Deputy Forest Supervisor. “The Malheur National Forest has much to offer with its wide-ranging resource base and dedicated employees,” stated Williams. “Additionally, the community of John Day offers the quality of life my family and I value.

I am excited and honored to be able to continue working with everyone here, caring for our resources and communities and shaping the future together."Williams has a diverse background with the Forest Service.

He has served as Operations Staff Officer on the Fremont National Forest where he was responsible for timber, engineering, lands, recreation and minerals. He was also responsible for the fire program for 5 years on that Forest.

In addition, he has served as a District Ranger on two other northwest forests. Williams is married with two children in college. He enjoys golf, hunting, and family activities. He has a B.S. in Forest Management and an MBA, both from Oregon State University.
