The U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office for Kentucky is located in the heart of downtown Louisville at 321 West Main Street. The employees of the Louisville Regional Office administer a full range of compensation and pension benefits for approximately 380,618 veterans in the state. These benefits include disability compensation and pension, death compensation, death pension and dependency and indemnity compensation, burial and accrued benefits, as well as many ancillary benefits such as clothing allowance and specially adapted equipment grants for motor vehicles. The office guarantees loans made to servicemembers, veterans, reservists and unremarried surviving spouses for the purchase or refinancing of homes, condominiums, and manufactured homes. The Vocational Rehabilitation and Counseling division provides comprehensive counseling and rehabilitation services using the most advanced methods and techniques for eligible veterans and their families to ensure their opportunity to obtain realistic and satisfying vocational and personal goals.

The Louisville Regional Office is very proud of its Servicepersons Transition Examination Program outbased at Fort Knox, Kentucky which processes disability claims just prior to the servicepersons release from active duty. This program reduces normal processing time for such claims from several months to approximately two weeks. The success of the program can be attributed to the overall cooperation between the Department of the Army, the VA Medical Center in Louisville and the VA Regional Office in Louisville.
