Conservatives capture their majority with NDP forming historic opposition

It was a night full of surprises but in the end Stephen Harper got what he had so long sought – a healthy majority. Unconfirmed results had the Tories winning or leading 167 ridings, well above the 155 needed for a majority. The NDP was on track to almost triple the 36 seats the party previously held. (103)
