Research

Our research program objective is to investigate the health consequences of deployment in a combat theatre with a specific focus on deployment-related exposures and the risk of latent illness, injury, and disability. The research program concentrates on understanding and improving the health of war veterans. It consists of epidemiological, clinical, and health services research. The areas of interest include

  • Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom veterans
  • Environmental exposures and postdeployment health
  • Long-term effects of war
  • Memory/mood problems
  • New/unusual infections
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder
  • Nervous system problems
  • Motor vehicle fatalities among combat veterans
  • Sexual traumas
  • Adverse reproductive health outcomes
  • Disability resulting from deployment illness or injury
  • Healthcare utilization
  • Risk communication needs of combat veterans
