J.R. Oppenheimer and Feynman Fellowships
The Elementary Particles and
Field Theory group at LANL
invites applications for J.
Robert Oppenheimer and Feynman Fellowships. Both appointments are for
three years and carry
a starting
salary of $104,000/year. At the end of the 3-year term,
subject to the availability of funds, the fellowship holder is
typically
considered for promotion to permanent staff, based on her/his
scientific performance and potential.
The selection process has two stages: the candidates are first
selected by the T-8 group and then put up for a LANL-wide competition.
The applicants
must be within 5 years of having received
their Ph.D.s. The Oppenheimer Fellowship is open to citizens of all
countries while
for the Feynman Fellowship only U.S. citizens are eligible.
The deadline for submitting the complete application is
* Dec 2, 2008
and is rigid. The decision is expected in late January 2009.

Postdoctoral positions
The Elementary Particles and
Field Theory group at LANL
is accepting applications for postdoctoral positions.
Candidates are strongly encouraged to submit applications by
Dec 2, 2008,
although late applications may also be considered.
The appointment is normally for two years and can be extended to the
third year depending on the funding situation. The expected starting date is September 2009, although details can be negotiable. The salaries of
post-doctoral fellows depend on the years of experience after Ph.D. and,
in the fiscal year 2008, range between $69,800-$83,200.
Successful postdoctoral candidates will be considered for
nomination to Director's Postdoctoral Fellow position which is
awarded on the basis of a laboratory-wide competition.

supporting your application; please specify the names of your references in your cover letter
-
Curriculum vitae including the list of publications
-
A technical statement of research interests
If selected by the group for the Lab-wide competition for Oppenheimer/Feynman Fellowships or Director's Postdoctoral Fellow positions, applicants will need to quickly supply:
-
A one-page research proposal, at the Scientific American level,
describing what research you intend to do while here (for the Lab-wide
selection committee)
-
Undergraduate and graduate transcripts (unofficial/Xerox copies
