The Forest Management Staff is involved directly and indirectly with a variety of projects, programs, and initiatives.

  • Forest Products Measurement
    Timber cruising, log scaling, and volume estimation information, software, and support for the National Forests.
  • Forest Vegetation Management Tools (VegTools)
    A clearinghouse for both familiar and innovative vegetation management tools. It provides a grass-roots approach to sharing information and projects used in the field to restore and maintain forest health.
  • Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS)
    The USDA Forest Service's nationally supported framework for growth and yield modeling.
  • Invasive Species Program
    The U.S. Forest Service's portal to invasive species information, management, and research activities across the agency and with our many partners.
  • Reforestation and Nurseries
    More than 40 reforestation and nurseries reports, tech tips, and websites, including 70 fabrication drawings of nursery equipment, prepared by the Forest Service's Technology & Development Program.
  • Stewardship Contracting
    Natural resource management practices that seek to promote a closer working relationship with local communities in a broad range of activities to improve land conditions, consistent with a community's ecological, social, and economic objectives.
  • Tree Marking Paint
    The National Headquarter's Forest Management Staff provides information, specifications, and meeting notes about tree marking paint.
  • Woody Biomass Utilization
    The Forest Service encourages the utilization of woody biomass from hazardous fuel reduction, restoration, and other management activities on public and private lands to help offset the costs of these activities, provide economic opportunities to rural communities, and enhance environmental benefits for the American public.
