Subject: SeaWiFS in safe haven 7 Jan 2009 - Issued 8 Jan 09, 0415 UTC Topic: SeaWiFS in safe haven 7 Jan 2009 Message Issued: Thursday, January 08, 2009 (0415 UTC) Satellites Impacted: OrbView-2 (GeoEye) Products Impacted: Operational (SeaWiFS) CoastWatch ocean color products Date/Time of Outage: 7 January 2009, 05:39 UTC – 22:23:12 UTC ----------------------------------------- Details: GeoEye informed NOAA that the SeaWiFS aboard OrbView-2 entered safe haven last night (DAY 007) at approximately 05:39 UTC due to an autonomous GIM reboot. GeoEye reports that recovery is complete and all subsystems are nominal. SeaWiFS imaging is expected to resume DAY 007 at 22:23:12 UTC. REMINDER: CoastWatch ocean color products will not be generated from SeaWiFS (Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor) data for dates after 17 March 2009, as NOAA’s access to 1-kilometer resolution SeaWiFS/OV-2 data from the commercial vendor GeoEye expires 17 March 2009. CoastWatch users will still be able to use MODIS/Aqua-derived ocean color products. CoastWatch will generate MERIS/Envisat-derived ocean color products operationally before SeaWiFS data access expires. Because the MERIS swath width is narrower, users should expect reduced geographic coverage compared to SeaWiFS. Also, MERIS/Envisat-derived ocean color products are not as timely as SeaWiFS/OV2-derived ocean color products, due to intermittent ESA delays posting MERIS source data. ------------------------------------------ Contact Information: Linda Stathoplos Satellite Services Division NOAA/NESDIS/OSDPD 301-763-8142 x137
