Limnology and Oceanography

L&O CoverLimnology and Oceanography (L&O; print ISSN 0024-3590, online ISSN 1939-5590) publishes original research articles, reviews, and comments about all aspects of limnology and oceanography. The journal's unifying theme is the understanding of aquatic systems. Submissions are judged on their originality and intellectual contribution to the fields of limnology and oceanography. Site-specific studies, laboratory experiments, and modeling exercises will be considered only to the extent they contribute to a broader understanding of aquatic sciences.

Papers that focus on new measurement equipment and techniques or on evaluations and comparisons of existing methods should be directed to the companion journal Limnology and Oceanography: Methods.

Six regular issues of Limnology and Oceanography are published each year by the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) in partnership with John Wiley & Sons. In addition, Special Issues that focus on topics that are timely and of interest to a significant number of ASLO members are published occasionally. L&O special issues have historically been valuable, comprehensive treatments of major issues such as eutrophication, iron limitation, harmful algal blooms, shallow water optics, and biodiversity. In the past, Special Issues required substantial outside financial support to cover the cost of publication, but beginning in 2015, one Special Issue can be published each year at no extra expense as part of the partnership with Wiley. Proposals and inquiries for Special Issues should be directed to the Editor-in-Chief of L&O.
