Business License Information Center (BLIC)
A clearinghouse for IOWA Business Requirements
The Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) has created the Business License Information Center (BLIC) as a clearinghouse of resources to aid you in finding the information you need.
IDED has partnered with other state agencies to develop this comprehensive tool that provides quick and accurate answers and important state agency contact information. BLIC is:
- A convenient, effective and timely system to provide specific information on the licenses and permits required for new and expanding businesses and those businesses supported by licensed occupations.
- A clearinghouse for small business start-up requirements that accesses several government agencies from a single source.
- A comprehensive list of web-based links to additional e-commerce, federal, state, county and local small business related resources.
- A simplified search process allowing for a reduction in paperwork and improved response time by state government.
Several hundred business types and occupations are listed in the BLIC system allowing you to obtain comprehensive information on any registration, certification, or licensing or permitting requirements.
For example, by entering the words "biotechnology research," all associated requirements are identified. This includes a listing of who must apply, where and when to apply, fees, duration of the permit or license, processing time and contact information.
IDED continues to work with other state agencies to supplement the licensing information, making it the most up to date resource for state permits.
