Summary
Postdoctoral Position in Oral Pathogen Sequence Analysis: The Oral Pathogen Genome Sequence Database (ORALGEN) . is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to work on our bioinformatics team to perform sequence analysis and annotation. Our focus is on oral pathogen genomes and the upcoming oral human microbiome project (HMP) sequence data. The work will involve running sequence analysis software, analyzing genes by DNA/protein sequence, and genomic structure, mining various gene annotation databases and presenting results on the ORALGEN web site. . The successful candidate will work closely with scientists from dental research community. The successful applicant will be exposed to a wide variety of bioinformatics technologies in a state of the art facility to perform large-scale comparative genome and metagenomic studies.
Required Skills
Successful candidates will need to possess extensive hands-on experience with gene discovery and analysis of genomic sequences, in-depth understanding and interpretation of the literature, comparative genome analysis and experience in tools, methods, and databases for biological sequence analysis.
Desired Skills
Previous experience in comparative genome and pathway metabolism analysis is desired. Demonstrated computer skills (programming in Perl, SQL, familiarity with UNIX, Web) are preferred. Candidates should possess excellent verbal and written skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills for effective mentoring of students and technicians.
Education
PhD with a strong background in Oral Biology, Microbiology, and/or Bioinformatics completed within the last 5 years or soon to be completed.
