Pharmacy

The Pharmacy Department is responsible for medication distribution processes at the Lawton Indian Hospital . The primary function of the pharmacy department is to provide pharmaceutical care to Native American beneficiaries in both the outpatient and inpatient care settings. In addition:

  • The pharmacy department promotes, assesses, and assures quality, cost effective drug utilization while ensuring drug selection is in compliance with the Lawton Service Unit Drug Formulary criteria, Indian Health Service guidelines, Joint Commission standards, and state of Oklahoma rules and regulations.
  • The pharmacy department provides medication therapy management services and evaluates medication regimens for appropriateness of use, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, therapeutic duplications, non-compliance to drug therapy, and adverse drug reactions.
  • The pharmacy department provides pharmaceutical consultation services to patients, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel at the Lawton Indian Hospital.
  • The pharmacy department makes every effort to obtain reimbursement for medications dispensed to Native American beneficiaries with third party resources through the pharmacy Point of Sale (POS) system.
