Bernardine Evaristo, highly acclaimed British author, discussed her work on Thursday, February 17, 2005. The event was sponsored by the Library's John W. Kluge Center and the British Council USA..This event launched the British Council USA's inaugural UK writer-in-residence program at Georgetown University. A partnership between the British Council USA and major American universities, the writer-in-residence program introduces US students to exciting and contemporary British writers through on-campus workshops and readings.
Speaker Biography: Bernardine Evaristo has emerged as one of Britain's most talented, innovative and successful contemporary writers. Born in London of European and African parentage, Evaristo's background proved an important resource within her fictional writing. She is the author of two critically acclaimed novels-in-verse: "Lara" (1997), and the "Emperor's Babe" (2001). Evaristo's next novel-in-verse, "Soul Train," is due out this spring.
