U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests Violent Fugitive at Fisherman’s Wharf
Fugitive’s Brother Still on the Run

San Francisco, CA – United States Marshal Federico Rocha announces that David Sanchez, one of two brothers wanted by the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, was arrested Tuesday evening outside an IN-N-OUT restaurant at Fisherman’s wharf in San Francisco.

David Sanchez and his brother Leo are suspects in an assault involving an assault riffle. Leo Sanchez became upset with the victim of the assault after an argument involving the victim and Leo’s girlfriend. Leo and David confronted the victim with an assault riffle at the victim’s residence. During the confrontation David struck the victim in the head with rifle’s butt stock knocking the victim to the ground, handed the rifle to Leo, and began punching and kicking the victim on the ground. Leo joined the assault, periodically striking the victim in the face with the rifle’s butt stock, while using the rifle to prevent anyone from coming to the victim’s aide.

The Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office obtained and served a search warrant on the brothers’ residence and vehicles finding two rifles, a shotgun, and ammunition for several different types of weapons. The brothers were not at the residence and their whereabouts remained unknown. The assault rifle was not recovered.

Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office detectives contacted the United States Marshals Service Northern California Fugitive Task Force who learned that David Sanchez was traveling to San Francisco with friends and planned to visit Fisherman’s Wharf. Task Force Officers and Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office Deputies surveilled the area for several hours when officers located David Sanchez outside the restaurant. Sanchez was taken into custody and booked in the San Francisco County Jail.

Leo Sanchez remains at large. Anyone with information can contact the U.S. Marshals task force at (408) 535-5493 or the Santa Cruz County Sheriff (831) 454-2311.
