Mental Health Prevalence Data

The CDC Division of Adult and Community Health and participating state health departments track adults' perceived mentally and physically unhealthy days using the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The BRFSS, the world’s largest telephone survey, tracks health risks in the United States. Information from the survey is used to improve the health of the American people. Since 1993, the BRFSS has obtained over 1.2 million responses to the question, "Now thinking about your mental health, which includes stress, depression, and problems with emotions, for how many days during the past 30 days was your mental health not good?" Results are provided in the table below.
