DELAYS IN GRANT APPLICATION SUBMISSIONS RELEASE DATE: February 19, 2003 NOTICE: NOT-OD-03-030 National Institutes of Health (NIH) The recent winter storms have led to closures of institutions and the Federal Government. The NIH realizes that this may cause problems for investigators who are submitting grant applications for special receipt dates (RFAs and PARs) for the week of February 17, 2003. Applications for special receipt dates that are submitted late because of the recent storms should include a cover letter noting the reasons for the delay. It is not necessary to get permission in advance for weather-related delays in grant application submission; please do not call the Division of Receipt and Referral to request such permission. It is important that these applications be received by NIH no later than February 26 so that they can be identified before the arrival of the March 1 unsolicited applications. Because March 1 falls on a Saturday, applications will be on time if they are sent by Monday, March 3, 2003. The critical date is the submission date, not the arrival date. If the recent storms or other extraordinary circumstances lead to a delay in submission for March 3, please include a cover letter explaining the reasons for the delay; again, please do not call to request permission to be late.
