Eckford was one of the Little Rock Nine that attempted to enroll in Little Rock's Central High School, which until then had been segregated. Congressman Vic Snyder announced a $409,000 technology grant awarded by Legal Services Corporation to the Center for Arkansas Legal Services at a news conference on August 8, 2001 at the Arkansas Bar Association. The funds will be to create a toll-free hotline, six virtual law offices, an integrated case management system, and an enhanced legal services website located at www.arlegalservices.org.

Vic Snyder met with Sarah Wolf, the winner of the 2001 Congressional Art Competition for Arkansas's 2nd district, and her mother, Patrice, following a Capitol Hill reception on June 19, 2001 honoring the winners from across the country. Snyder announced the winning entry at an earlier reception in Little Rock.

Kathryn Wolf of Mount St. Mary's High School in Little Rock is the winner from Arkansas's 2nd Congressional District of the 2001 Congressional High School Art Competition.

Rep. Vic Snyder (D-AR) and former Rep. Sonny Montgomery (D-MS) attended a Veterans Benefits Subcommittee Meeting on June 7, 2001 to discuss legislation to enhance the GI Bill. Montgomery was Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs for many years of his House tenure. Snyder serves on the Committee and is also a member of the Health and Benefits Subcommittees.

Rep. Vic Snyder (AR-02) called for a Medicare prescription drug plan to cover Arkansas seniors at a Capitol Hill news conference with Reps. Marion Berry (AR-01) and Mike Ross (AR-04) on May 8, 2001. Snyder said that the rising cost and increased use of prescription drugs, as evidenced in a new study, underscores the need for a prescription drug benefit to Medicare.

U.S. Representatives Vic Snyder (AR-02), Marion Berry (AR-01), and Mike Ross (AR-04) held a press conference at Pulaski Heights Elementary School in Little Rock on May 18, 2001 to highlight the need for increased federal funding for public schools. Snyder said that the federal government needs to keep its funding promise to local school districts for providing I.D.E.A. programs that benefit children with disabilities.

Rep. Vic Snyder (D-AR) discusses the need for campaign finance reform with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) at a town hall meeting held at the University of Arkansas Little Rock on January 29th. Snyder joined Sens. McCain and Russ Feingold (D-WI) onstage to express his support for a ban on soft money campaign contributions. Snyder has been a co-sponsor of the Shays-Meehan campaign finance reform bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.
