Nadler Welcomes Introduction of ENDA |

Legislation Would Affirm Fairness in the WorkplaceWASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08), Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, today applauded the introduction of the bipartisan Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). Rep. Nadler is an original co-sponsor of the bill, which would protect gay, lesbian and transgender employees from discrimination in the workplace. His statement on the bill’s introduction is as follows: "The Employment Non-Discrimination Act simply takes the American values of fairness and equality and seeks to place them into the law. Workers should be judged on their actual job performance and not be subject to prejudice or bias. Every individual should be able to work and contribute to society without fear that they will be discriminated against for their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. "Singling out gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender employees is certainly unfair and unacceptable. Most of America’s largest corporations – and, indeed, most Americans – already recognize this fundamental value. However, Congress needs to act because there are still too many locations where such deplorable acts are still perfectly legal. In our America, who you are should not be a factor in your employment. "I am proud to stand here today with my colleagues and I will work hard to ensure the swift passage of ENDA." ### |
