MySpace cases hit too close to home

The number of cases of sexual predators targeting children through social networking sites such as Myspace.com have been hitting too close to home. A Naperville man was charged yesterday with soliciting a 14 year old girl for sex. Luckily, the 28 year old man was arrested as he went to go meet the girl Wednesday.

On Tuesday, a 20 year old Blue Island Man was charged with having sex with a 14 year old Lake County girl. The man had contacted the adolescent through Myspace.com.

The frequency of these reports is concerning. This is why we rolled out the Deleting Online Predators Act of 2006, all part of our Suburban Agenda, which will fight the threat posed to our children by online sexual predators. We have called on the Federal Trade Commission to issue a consumer warning on social networking sites but there is much more that needs to be done.
