Jackson To Visit Grant Award Sites

Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. announced today that he will present "mock checks" to the Southeast Chicago Development Commission, Chicago State University, and the Village of Homewood on Monday. All three received federal funds this year that were secured by Congressman Jackson.

At 9 AM, Jackson will present a $100,000 check to Ms. Lynne Cunningham, Executive Director of Southeast Chicago Development Commission, in front of Royal Savings, 9226 South Commercial Street. The check represents a Fiscal Year 2004 federal earmark secured by Jackson for the development of a shopping center.

At 10 AM, Jackson, along with the Mitsubishi Motors USA Foundation, will present an "Unsung Heroines" award to Laura and Sheila Braxton at A Little Bit of Heaven shelter, located at 11321 South Wentworth Street.

At 11 AM, Jackson will present a mock check for $200,000 to Dr. Elnora Daniel, President of Chicago State University, at 9501 South King Drive. The check represents a Fiscal Year

2004 federal earmark secured by Jackson for the establishment of a School of Pharmacy.

At 2 PM, Jackson will present a check for $450,000 to Mayor Richard Hofeld of Homewood for the renovation of a train depot.

Jackson is a member of the United States House of Representatives Appropriations Committee.
