WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Lois Capps released the following statement today in response to remarks by President Bush on energy this morning at the White House:
“The President’s renewed call for more offshore drilling essentially asks the oil companies where it is they would like to drill. Apparently, the tens of millions of acres off our coasts and in publicly held lands where they already can drill just aren’t enough. It’s kind of like the tens of billions of dollars of profits they are shaking out of consumers’ pockets – it’s never enough for the oil companies. We’ve already seen 7½ years of this failed drill-only energy strategy and the results it has delivered – record high gas prices and record high oil company profits. We need a new direction in energy policy and President Bush is simply incapable of delivering it.”
