U.S. HOUSE PASSES LEGISLATION HONORING
100TH ANNIVERSARY OF UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL ARKANSAS

Washington, DCThis year marks the 100th Anniversary of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, and last night the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution sponsored by Congressman Vic Snyder honoring its centennial.  Congressmen Marion Berry, John Boozman and Mike Ross served as original cosponsors.

Founded in 1907 as the Arkansas State Normal School, the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) began as a teacher-training school with 105 students and had a graduating class of 10 in 1909.   In 1975, the Arkansas State Normal School was granted university status and was renamed the University of Central Arkansas.   UCA now has more than 100 undergraduate courses of study, 33 masters degree programs, and 3 doctoral programs. The University serves over 12,300 students and recognized 1,008 graduates in the spring of 2007.

“Faulkner County is home to families, kids, and Toadsuck Daze,” said Congressman Vic Snyder. “But, it is also a center of learning.   I'm pleased to honor UCA on its celebration of 100 years of helping Arkansans fulfill dreams.”
