Little Rock – Congressman Vic Snyder announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is now accepting applications for its Fiscal Year 2007 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The program offers over $492 million to fire departments and emergency management organizations throughout the United States. Applicants may apply for assistance through May 4th, 2007.
The AFG program gives assistance to first-responder organizations in the purchase of response equipment, personal protective equipment, and vehicles. Awards are allocated through two AFG programs. The Operations and Safety program provides funding for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities. The Vehicle Acquisition program provides funding for brush trucks, tankers and tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, aerials, foam units, and fireboats.
Applications are available online at www.usfa.dhs.gov . The www.firegrantsupport.com website also provides guidance for preparing a competitive application as well as an overview of funding priorities and evaluation criteria.
Additionally, the U.S. Fire Administration's National Fire Academy announced the release of its FY08 resident course schedule for fire and emergency professionals, which includes courses on the Emmitsburg, Maryland campus from October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2008. Interested applicants should visit www.usfa.dhs.gov/applications/nfacsd to view the course schedule, description, selection criteria, and prerequisite information. The first semester application period is from May 1 to June 30.
