Arkansas Congressional Delegation Announces $76,000
in Delta Regional Authority Grants

 

Washington, DCThe Arkansas Congressional Delegation today announced three Arkansas projects that will receive faith-based funding awards from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA). 

The DRA, a federal agency established by Congress in 2000, is designed to channel resources, aid and guidance for economic development to the Mississippi Delta region.

Members of the Arkansas Congressional Delegation include: U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln (D) and Mark Pryor (D), U.S. Representatives Marion Berry (D-1st), Vic Snyder (D-2nd), John Boozman (R-3rd), and Mike Ross (D-4th).

$51,350 Character Attitude Leadership Empowerment Behavior (CALEB) Initiative – Jefferson County
This funding will support a five-week “Winning Circle Camp" for 50-70 area at-risk youths.  Located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, this program encourages participants to enter the workforce, sustain quality lifestyles and be positive contributors to society.  Camp classes include: life skills, resume writing, reading, interviewing techniques, financial management, abstinence, alcohol and drugs education.                                                                    

$10,000 Job Training Career Choices Workshop – Pulaski County
This funding will support workshops for 160 at-risk and underprivileged youths through encouragement, life skills education, tutoring and mentoring.  Previous results and accomplishments from this program include preparing women to enter the workforce and preventing teenage pregnancy and dropouts.          

 $15,000 Workforce and Business Development Initiative – Pulaski County
This funding will support an initiative to collaborate with staffing agencies, down-sizing employers, municipalities, workforce development entities on all governmental levels, community and faith-based organizations, and educational institutions to prepare 50-75 men and women for the workforce.
