Islands
The
Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Ministry of Education receives
funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV
prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey. The goal of
the HIV prevention program is to prevent and reduce sexual risk behaviors
that result in HIV infection among youth.RMI's Program
Activities
Providing HIV
Prevention Education
- Developing and maintaining an interagency HIV prevention Web site in both English and Marshallese.
- Conducting professional development for classroom teachers to
improve their knowledge and skills in providing effective HIV prevention
education in Marshall Islands’ schools.
- Providing opportunities in peer education for high school students.
Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Administering the YRBS in middle schools and high schools to obtain
data representative of all students in grades 6 −12.
- Disseminating YRBS results to Ministry of Education leadership,
schools, and community partners.
