New Version of METS Schema Released (December 21, 2001)

A revised version of the METS XML schema is now available at the official METS web site at http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/. Please note that this revision requires the use of an additional XML schema document defining XLink attributes used in the METS schema. The XLink schema is available at http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/xlink.xsd

This revision makes a number of changes and enhancements to the METS schema, including:

  • Change of sequence operator for StructMap so that only 1 root div element is permitted;
  • Addition of new roles to agent element's role attribute and support for extensible 'other' role;
  • Additon of support for extensible 'other' type attribute on agent element;
  • Revision of documentation;
  • Relocation of CHECKSUM attribute from FContent to File element;
  • Change of the file element's CREATED attribute and fileGroup's VERSDATE attribute to a type of xsd:dateTime;
  • Change of attribute name DMD for div element to DMDID for consistency's sake.
  • Additon of new behaviorSec for support of referencing executable code from METS object
