New Version of METS Schema Released (February 8, 2002)

A revised version of the METS XML schema is now available at the official METS web site at http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/.

The new version of the METS schema eliminates the problems identified by Chris Wilper from Cornell by, 1) getting rid of the redundant listing of "VRA" in the enumeration of metadata types, and 2) altering the content model of mdWrap so that the ambiguous content model resulting from having the binData element appear in the same point in the document model as an ##any declaration is eliminated. The new version of the schema has been validated against both XML Spy and the IBM AlphaWorks schema checker.

Input from the library community regarding the design of the METS schema is encouraged. Comments regarding METS' design should be submitted to the METS listserv. Details about subscribing to the listserv are available at the METS web site).
