TO ALL STATE IV-D DIRECTORS

RE: SimPC Software

Dear Colleague:

By copy of this letter, I am forwarding an updated version of SimPC software to Federal Offset, Federal Parent Locator Service (FPLS), Interstate Referral Guide (IRG) and 1099 contacts in your state. The manufacturer, Simware Inc., has certified this release (Version 7.13) as Year 2000 compliant.

We understand that you currently may be using either Version 6.0 or 6.1 of SimPC. We have contacted Simware to determine the Year 2000 status of these versions. Simware indicated that no date calculations are involved in the use of SimPC, so there should not be any concern regarding Year 2000 compliance.

Simware has conducted Year 2000 tests of SimPC version 7.13. Those tests included rollover testing from December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000, the Year 2000 Leap Year test, and December 31, 2000 to January 1, 2001. Simware has indicated that if any unforeseen Year 2000 problems occur that affect the operation of SimPC, they will provide upgrades, as long as version 7.13 is installed. This does not apply to previous versions of SimPC.

It is recommended that you install the Year 2000 compliant version of SimPC to provide an added degree of Year 2000 assurance for your operations. We have sent two diskettes and a hard copy of the written installation instructions. You will also find a copy of the instructions on the disks. The instructions cover two possible installations: first, a full installation if SimPC has not been used previously, and second, an upgrade of your existing version of SimPC. If an upgrade is performed, Option B from the written instructions should be followed. Reinstallation and reconfiguration will not be necessary. All existing and defined SimPC connections and definitions will remain available after the 7.13 upgrade has been installed. The installation or upgrade should be repeated for each machine used for Tax Offset, FPLS, 1099, or IRG.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Abe Klugman (410) 965-5635 or, as a backup, Rose Hodel (703) 345-8091.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and support as we work to improve the lives of our nation’s children.

Sincerely,

David Gray Ross
