New York is a home rule state. The primary program areas include Foster Care, Adoption, Prevention Services, Child Protective Services, Child/Day Care, Domestic Violence, Youth Development, Teenage Pregnancy, Adult Protective Services, Indian Affairs and the Blind and Visually Handicapped. The Division mandates, established under State and Federal laws and regulations within each of the program areas, include the supervision, monitoring and provision of technical assistance to fifty-eight local social services districts, county and municipal youth bureaus, and 2,000 voluntary agency providers in carrying out program activities. |
