Functional Description The TANF Program in New Mexico provides temporary cash assistance and offers a work program to clients. ISD programs include TANF, Food Stamps, General Assistance, Refugee Resettlement, Medical Assistance, and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Other Relevant Information The State of New Mexico administers the TANF block grant through the New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD), Income Support Division. The TANF program is state administered in New Mexico. State employees perform all eligibility and administrative activities. The program is administered through 37 field offices across the state. The offices are organized into five regions with a Regional Operations Manager overseeing each region. The largest caseloads are in Regions Two, Three, and Five. HSD contracts with community colleges and universities to administer most of the work component of the TANF program. The TANF program, both for cash assistance and for the work program, is supported by the same automated system (ISD2).
