Speaker Biography: Maria Mazziotti Gillan holds the May Sarton Award in Poetry. She has eight collections of poetry to her credit, including "The Weather of Old Seasons" (Cross-Cultural Communications, 1988), "Where I Come From" (l995) and "Things My Mother Told Me" (Guernica Editions, I998). Her latest book is "Italian Women in Black Dresses." Maria is co-editor of three anthologies published by Penguin/Putnam: "Unsettling America," "Identity Lessons" and "Growing up Ethnic in America." She directs the Poetry Center at Passaic Community College in Paterson, N.J., and is director of the creative writing program at Binghamton-State University of New York.
