Welcome to the NOAA Research Council Web site!
The NOAA Research Council is an internal body composed of senior scientific personnel from every line office in the agency who provide corporate oversight to ensure that NOAA’s research activities are of the highest quality, meet long-range societal needs, take advantage of emerging scientific and technological opportunities, and shape a forward-looking research agenda.
The Mission of the NOAA Research Council is to ensure that all NOAA services are based on sound science and that all NOAA research programs and long term plans are consistent with the NOAA Mission, NOAA Strategic Plan and recommendations contained in National Research Council and NOAA Science Advisory Board (SAB) research reviews.

NOAA manages a vibrant, cutting-edge science program that focuses on research with a high relevance to society. To assist the general public in understanding the state of the science, NOAA develops State of the Science Fact Sheets about key research areas which may be of high interest to the public, and were there may be a diversity of science views within NOAA. The NOAA Research Council oversees the creation and updating of these fact sheets and we post the most recent documents here for the public.
