International Resources for Parents

As with domestic U.S. cases, state child support enforcement agencies also provide services for international cases. The U.S. Government negotiates Federal-level reciprocity agreements with foreign countries on behalf of all U.S. jurisdictions. Canada is a little different; the U.S. has agreements with the Canadian Provinces and Territories individually, rather than with Canada as a whole.

These international child support agreements specify procedures for establishing and enforcing child support orders across borders. While requirements for getting enforcement action may vary depending on the other nation involved, a parent will be asked to provide the same information as in a domestic case, including as much specific information, such as address and employer of the noncustodial parent, as is possible
