Dr. Horn Discusses Family with Officials in Ireland, Greece
HHS Assistant Secretary for Children and Families Wade F. Horn, Ph.D.,
met recently in Dublin with Ireland’s Minister of State for Health
and Children, Brian Lenihan, to discuss the family and U.S. social policy.
During his three-day visit to Ireland Oct. 12 to 14, Dr. Horn met with Ireland’s
Minister for Education and Science Mary Hanafin and participated in a roundtable
event on the role of faith-based organizations in social services and family

On October 10, Dr. Horn met with Greek’s Deputy Minister of Health, Georgios Konstantopoulos in Athens to discuss health and family issues. During this two-day visit to Greece, Dr. Horn met with Greek’s Minister for Employment and Social Welfare, Panos Panagiotopoulos, to continue discussions of social policy and welfare issues from the OECD Ministerial on Social Policy in Paris last April.
He also discussed early childhood education and the integration of immigrants
into the education system with Greek’s Deputy Minister of Education,
George Kalos. After meeting with Greek’s Deputy Minister of Public
Order Christos Markogiannakis to discuss human trafficking, Dr. Horn spent
time with non-governmental organizations working to combat human trafficking.
