RE: National Child Support Systems Conference: “Our Road to the Future” December 9-11, 2003

Dear Colleague:

The Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) is hosting a National Child Support Systems Conference, to be held at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, DC from December 9th through 11th, 2003. The primary objective of the 2½-day conference, “Our Road to the Future”, is for program, policy, and systems staff to discuss the role of state and Federal systems in the future of the child support program. The conference will be held all day on December 9th and 10th and for a half day on December 11th.

This event will bring together state, territory, and tribal IV-D staff, Federal OCSE staff, regional staff, and OCSE contractors. Specific topics to be discussed include:

Today’s Challenges, including ongoing intrastate and interstate issues such as case closure, arrears calculation, multiple order situations, and standardized use of data and technology.
Current National Initiatives that address some of today’s challenges, including the Interstate Case Reconciliation project and the new Arrears Calculator.
Future National Initiatives that will further increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the child support enforcement program, including new legislative proposals, with particular emphasis on Federal freezing and seizing of multistate financial institution accounts, data modeling and standardization, and the integration of state and Federal enterprise architectures.
The Expanded Role of the Federal Parent Locator Service (FPLS), including discussion of increased functionality and alternative target architectures that are being considered for the FPLS.

The conference will provide an excellent opportunity for your staff to participate in building our road to the future of the program, both from the systems and programmatic perspectives. OCSE will pay the travel costs for one participant from each state, territory, or federally funded tribe, as designated by each IV-D Director. Travel costs include coach round-trip airfare, lodging, per diem, and ground transportation costs incurred in association with this event.
