California Air Quality Initiative
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has designated serious
non-attainment areas in California related to agricultural operations.
Generation of Particulate Matter, Ozone and Greenhouse Gases through farming
operations play a major role in air pollution, reduced crop yields, human health
and other environmental impacts. Acting as a mediator between regulatory
agencies and the agricultural community, the Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS) is working to develop farming
practices that improve air quality. In cooperation with partners, agencies and
farmers, NRCS helps develop research data and incentives to promote
"farm-friendly" practices.
