Understand geology of part of the margin of East Antarctica
Information to be Derived
The structure and origin of Prydz Bay and the MacRobertson Shelf.
Summary
Approximately 5000 km of 3-fold and 6-fold seismic
reflection data, as well as magnetic and gravity data were
acquired along profiles of the Antarctic continental shelf and
upper slope from 60-77 deg E, and south of 66 deg S.

The seismic source consisted of a single 500 cu in Bolt airgun
pressurised to 2000 psi fired at an interval of 25 or 50 metres.

The receiver consisted of a Fairfield Industries 6-channel hydrophone streamer with 6 x 50 metre groups.

The data were recorded on a BMR-designed and built recording
system in SEG-Y format. The record length was 8 seconds.

The seismic data are available through the SCAR
(Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research) Seismic Data
Library System, or from Geoscience Australia.

Magnetic data were recorded from a single channel proton
precession magnetometer.

Bathymetric data were recorded from a 3.5 kHz echo-sounder.

Navigation data were recorded directly from a Tracor navigation
system which uses the TRANSIT navigation satellites.

Magnetic, bathymetry and navigation data were
recorded at a 10 second acquisition rate, with data being
processed post-survey and saved at a 1 minute interval.
